10 states with the most racial integration, progress in health

Washington is the top state for racial integration in health, while North Dakota is the top state for racial progress in health, a Jan. 9 WalletHub report found.

WalletHub compared the 50 states and the District of Columbia on employment and wealth, education, social and civic engagement and health and ranked each state on a 100-point scale. The analysis compared only Black people and white people. Racial integration was determined by subtracting the value attributed to white people and Black people for a given metric, using only the most recent available data. Racial progress was determined by subtracting the values attributed to white people and Black people for a given metric using the oldest available data and the most recent.

Health scores made up 20 points and were determined based on data on the share of adults in poor or fair health, insured adults, obese adults, diabetic adults, preterm births and the share of live births with low birthweight.
