Husband, wife sentenced for $125M fraud scheme

A Florida man and woman were each sentenced to 27 months in prison for their roles in a scheme that submitted $125 million in fraudulent claims to Medicare and Tricare.

Additionally, Charles Green Jr., 67, and his wife Melinda Green, 63, were also ordered to pay nearly $70 million in restitution to Medicare and $4.5 million in restitution to Tricare, according to a March 1 Justice Department news release.

Between May 2014 and June 2015, the couple conspired to submit fraudulent claims to Tricare for medically unnecessary pain creams, scar creams and multivitamins, according to the release. Between June 2018 and April 2019, the couple also conspired to defraud Medicare by submitting fraudulent claims for durable medical equipment.
