7 Republican, Democratic governors criticize AHCA in letter to senators

In a letter to Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell, R-Ky., and Senate Minority Leader Chuck Schumer, D-N.Y., Republican and Democratic governors criticized the American Health Care Act, arguing the bill doesn't do enough to protect the nation's sick and vulnerable, according to CNBC.

"Improvements should be based on a set of guiding principles … which include controlling costs and stabilizing the market, that will positively impact the coverage and care of millions of Americans, including many who are dealing with mental illness, chronic health problems, and drug addiction," the letter stated. "Unfortunately, H.R. 1628, as passed by the House, does not meet these challenges," it says.

The letter is signed by Republican Governors John Kasich of Ohio, Charles Baker of Massachusetts and Brian Sandoval of Nevada, as well as Democratic Governors John Kickenlooper of Colorado, Steve Bullock of Montana, Tom Wolf of Pennsylvania and John Bel Edwards of Louisiana.

The governors called on Senators to work together across the aisle to come up with a better solution.

"We feel that true and lasting reforms are best approached by finding common ground in a bipartisan fashion," they wrote, according to the report.
