Massachusetts hospital evacuated, diverted patients amid power outage

Brockton, Mass.-based Good Samaritan Medical Center suffered a power outage caused by a plumbing issue Oct. 7 that disrupted services at the hospital, according to a Brockton 25 News report.

The hospital, which is part of Steward Health Care, became fully operational again on Oct. 8, according to a Brockton Emergency Management post on X. During the power outage, Good Samaritan temporarily closed and evacuated some areas of the hospital, and diverted patients and ambulances. Some existing patients were relocated to a sister hospital, according to the report.

Good Samaritan kept its emergency room open for walk-in patients, but a post on X by Brockton Emergency Management advised residents to use urgent care centers if possible. The area has a shortage of emergency services after Signature Healthcare Brockton Hospital closed in February from a fire, and Norwood (Mass.) Hospital hasn't reopened after it closed due to a flood more than three years ago.
