Florida ED shuts down for hours after patient injures nurse, destroys hospital property

Naples, Fla.-based NCH Northeast Emergency Department shut down for nearly 6 hours after a man allegedly battered a nurse and destroyed over a thousand dollars' worth of property, NBC reported Aug. 6.

Police were called to the ER around 10 a.m. Aug. 5 to stop a 52-year-old man who was causing a disturbance in the emergency room, Collier County Sheriff's Office said. The man was taken into custody and faces two felony charges.

ER employees said they were able to treat the man before he was taken into custody.

"The safety and well-being of our patients, visitors and employees is our top priority on all NCH campuses. There was a disruption at the NCH Northeast Emergency Department which is now under investigation. The Emergency Department is open and patients should come to the ED if they have healthcare needs," a hospital spokesperson told NBC.
