Nebraska Total Care, a managed care organization, is facing sanctions from the state's Medicaid office unless it can fix problems that include failure to promptly pay providers, according to Live Well Nebraska.
Nebraska Total Care is one of three companies contracted by the state of Nebraska to authorize and pay for Medicaid care under a plan called Heritage Health. The company has until Friday to submit a plan for dealing with its late payments or it will face sanctions from the state.
According to Jessica Thoene, spokesperson for a group of Heritage Health providers, $27 million in claims have not been paid by Nebraska Total Care in over 60 days, leaving some providers to take out loans and pay staff out of their own pockets.
