Iowa's only statewide ACA exchange insurer requests 43% premium hike

Minnetonka, Minn.-based Medica, the only payer offering ACA exchange plans statewide in Iowa for 2018, seeks an average 43.5 percent rate increase for individual plans next year, Live Well Nebraska reports.

The company said the increase reflects "a number of risks with its decision to provide coverage across Iowa."

Last week Medica said it would operate on the exchanges in Nebraska as well, according to the report. Medica is set to be the sole payer offering on-exchange ACA plans in Nebraska next year.

Hartford, Conn.-based Aetna and Des Moines, Iowa-based Wellmark Blue Cross and Blue Shield decided to exit Iowa's 2018 exchange in April.
