After beginning layoffs, UM Hospital workers reach labor deal with administrators

The Service Employees International Union Local 1199 and the University of Miami Health System reached a labor deal covering workers at University of Miami Hospital, the Miami Herald reports.

The agreement, which affects a projected 2,100 hospital workers, includes pay raises and improved benefits, according to the report. Specifically, the agreement establishes $11 minimum hourly pay for union workers and includes a 2 percent raise for all full- and part-time employees, SEIU said in a statement obtained by the Miami Herald. "Depending on job classification and experience, some workers could see bigger raises," the report adds.

The labor deal comes about three weeks after an undisclosed number of layoffs began at University of Miami Hospital.
