Board issues University of Louisiana-Monroe license to operate medical school

The University of Louisiana board of regents granted Old Westbury-based New York Institute of Technology license to operate a medical school at the University of Louisiana Monroe campus, according to The News-Star.

ULM President Nick Bruno, PhD, announced the news via Twitter Wednesday.

A statement from the university obtained by The News-Star confirmed the news, stating the university had approved NYIT's application for licensure. The statement also said ULM and NYIT have a nonbinding letter of agreement in place to explore the creation of a medical school on the ULM campus.

Officials said more information would be released "soon," according to the report.
