Congressional Hispanic Caucus demands more outreach before ACA enrollment

The Congressional Hispanic Caucus wrote a letter Wednesday to HHS Secretary Tom Price, MD, in protest of the department's lack of focused outreach for Hispanic enrollment in 2018 ACA plans.

Though the ACA has enrolled over 4 million Latinos, lowering the uninsured rate in that community by 20 percent, one in six Latinos is still uninsured. The CHC believes outreach is vital to making sure people get the coverage they need.

"Data from four open enrollment periods demonstrate that in-person, in-language, and culturally competent consumer outreach, education and enrollment assistance is the most effective way to engage the Latino community, especially those new to our healthcare system," the letter read. "Preparation efforts and resources for Latino outreach are even more critical this upcoming open enrollment period, given the very limited timeframe people have to enroll."
