Samaritan Health Services CEO Larry Mullins to leave post by year-end

Corvallis, Ore.-based Samaritan Health Services President and CEO Larry Mullins is stepping down at the end of the year, after leading the health system for 25 years. He will take on a new part-time role as leader of the Samaritan Solutions Institute, as he transitions into semi-retirement.

Mr. Mullins assumed the CEO role at Corvallis-based Good Samaritan Regional Medical Center in 1992. At the time, the health system did not exist. Mr. Mullins played an instrumental role in the creation of Samaritan Health Services, which brought together five free-standing community hospitals.

During Mr. Mullins' tenure, the health system earned national accreditation as a training site for physician residents, added a number of new clinical programs and built the multidisciplinary health sciences campus in Lebanon, Ore., that includes a medical school.

Mr. Mullins is a fellow in the American College of Healthcare Executives, and he has received a Lifetime Leadership Award from the Oregon Health Forum. In his new role, Mr. Mullins will oversee Samaritan Solutions Institute, an annual, multi-day series of leadership sessions focusing on economic development, policy issues and organizational change.

Samaritan's Chief Administrative Officer Doug Boysen will take over as president and CEO in January 2018.
