7 recent donations, grants to healthcare organizations

Numerous healthcare organizations recently received donations to fund research, advance treatments, improve patient care and start renovations.

Here are seven recent donations, grants or gifts given to healthcare organizations by various entities in the past two weeks, beginning with the most recent.

1. CDC awards LSU Health New Orleans $15M grant for cancer prevention
LSU Health New Orleans School of Public Health received a $15 million grant from the CDC to help reduce cancer in the state of Louisiana. 

2. NIH awards $2.47M grant to University of Maryland medical school for E. Coli vaccine development
Baltimore-based University of Maryland School of Medicine received $2.47 million from the National Institutes of Health to develop a vaccine against Shigella and Enterotoxigenic E. Coli, which is a leading cause of diarrheal disease in young children in developing countries.

3. 17 New Jersey Hospitals collectively secure $36.5M in funding thanks to legislative effort
Following legislative efforts to successfully expand CMS' "rural floor policy" this year, 17 New Jersey hospitals will benefit from a $36.5 million boost in federal funding to pay physicians and providers for treating Medicare and Medicaid beneficiaries, according to the Philadelphia Inquirer.

4. University of Hawaii medical school to establish diabetes research center after $11.2M federal grant
Honolulu-based University of Hawaii's John A. Burns School of Medicine will establish a diabetes research center thanks to an $11.5 million grant from the National Institutes of Health, according to Hawaii News Now.

5. Enloe Medical Center reaches 60% of fundraising goal for cardiovascular center after $846k gift
Chico, Calif.-based Enloe Medical Center reached 60 percent of its fundraising goal after receiving $846,000 from the Wilson Charitable Remainder Trust.

6. Donation from former patient allows Danbury Hospital to transform cardiac operating room
Danbury (Conn.) Hospital will transform its existing cardiac operating room into a multifunctional cardiovascular surgical suite after a donation from former patient Yoriko McClure.

7. Children's Hospital Los Angeles receives $3M pledge to create endowed position Children's Hospital Los Angeles received a $3 million pledge from Teri and Byron Pollitt to help establish an endowed chair position for the hospital's Fetal and Neonatal Institute, according to the San Marino Tribune.
