Outpatient services once found on the hospital campus are increasingly popping up in the shopping mall, according to the Wall Street Journal.
Here are three reasons why health systems — such Nashville, Tenn.-based Vanderbilt University Medical Center and UCLA Health in Los Angeles — are expanding some of their outpatient services into former retail spaces.
- Accessibility is key when it comes to bringing healthcare facilities to malls, as these malls are often located right along major highways and offer ample parking.
- The physical space that former retail locations offer is unmatched and the ground floor of shopping malls has the structural support to easily hold heavy medical equipment.
- Proximity to other retailers creates a patient experience that is more comprehensive than traditional hospitals.
